Are You Disciplined?

The Answer May Surprise You.

When we believe in Jesus and we take him as our Lord, the scriptures indicate that we become something new and different from what we were before.

The challenge is that we have several years, if not decades, of our old self competing with what may be just a few years of our new self in Christ. What chance does the mind of a 2 year old have against the mind of a 28 year old? How about 38 years? 48 anyone? :-)

Note that even if you are new to the scriptures we have the Holy Spirit residing within us now. We have access to the same power that raised Jesus from the dead. So we don't need to out smart our old self. We do however need to put laser focus on our new abilities.

One Step At A Time

So let's answer the question. Are you Disciplined?

The scriptures say you have discipline.

In the past most of us really have not been disciplined at all. We even sing it from the roof tops because it's funny and makes for a light comment when we've blown it in some manner. Our past can have such a hold on us that we have come to accept that, with all good intentions aside, we struggle to be disciplined.

Jesus Thinks Otherwise

When we were born from heaven we took on a new nature. Lay hold of this new nature because it is powerful. Not to mention you are going to need it to be an effective citizen of Heaven.

You do know you are a member of the Kingdom of God, don't you? Here is what the scriptures say about you:
For God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity, but of power, love, and self-discipline. - 2 Timothy 1:7 NLT

The spirit that you had before... Bad.

The Spirit that is in you now... Good!

The bible clearly indicates that we now have within us power, love and... wait for it... self-discipline! We only need to believe this.

Can we be disciplined? Yep! But only if we believe it and act on it.

Take Action!

Do you believe you can access the Spirit of God in you and walk with self-discipline?
Take on a responsibility and excel in your self-discipline. Start with something small. Work your way up to the big stuff! It is in you and only needs to be developed.
The scriptures say you have it in you. What say you?

Where do you see great examples of self-discipline in others?
Learn by their example. Ask them what they do to stay on track.
Be sure to solicit ideas for becoming efficient. Self-discipline gets a turbo boost if you develop efficient methods.

Please, add your thoughts in the comment section.
