How Do I Serve God?

Here is a statement I get from Christians who have struggled to grasp what exactly God is asking them to do:
"I don't feel like I'm doing what God wants me to do. I would do what He wants but I just don't know what He wants me to do."
~~~~~~~
The Solution
"Do the things God told you to do & let Him do the things He said He would do."
Both concepts are extremely important. Often Believers struggle with these ideas and we fail to grasp where our responsibilities lie and where the Lord's responsibilities lie. Let's focus on the first half of the statement. We'll cover the last half in Friday's post.
Do The Things God Told You To Do
The Lord has given us many responsibilities.  However, we need to grow into them. Getting to know our Father is how we do that. So let's start with the easy stuff and get that nailed down. Then we will continue growing in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. - 2 Peter 3:18
Do the things God told you to do and let him do the things He said He would do.
Focus on the foundational tasks:
  • Read your bible.
  • Pray.
  • Talk to other Christians.
This is all doable. Even with our crazy schedules!
Read one chapter a day. Focus and pray to our Father for 30 seconds every day. Connect with another believer at least once a week. Even if it's a quick encounter.
Consistency vs. Perfection
Be encouraged! Your consistency is a powerful asset. We feel pretty good when we knock out a three hour study or a one hour prayer session, and those are valuable. However, those things are not the catalyst of our growth. Our growth catalyst is in our consistency.
Run with endurance.
When you execute consistency with the little things the quantity and quality will improve all on their own. Are there other things the Lord is telling us to do? Yep!
There's a ton more responsibilities that He has given us. Start with the small things. Do them daily. The others will come and they will come quickly as you grow in the basic things of Christ.
He who is faithful in a very little thing is faithful also in much;
- Luke 16:10 NASB
Take Action!
Do you usually take on so much that consistency feels impossible?
Stop it! :-) Do the easy stuff first. Master it. Commit to read one chapter of the bible and 30 seconds of prayer time everyday.
Fight for this time everyday.
What is keeping you from stepping up for a 3 minute prayer and reading session?
Nothing! Stop and make right now, day one!
In a short time you won't be able to live without it. :-) You'll see.
Where is a great place to meet and engage other Christians?
Church! They always seem to be there... and in great numbers. They are there at least once a week.
Talk to someone or even call a Christian you know and have a rap session once a week.
  2. Great advice for anyone trying to get started.
    As an add on, when I was at this point (and that wasn't to long ago) I struggled with knowing where I should start reading. What chapter of what book do I start with?
    Answer: it depends. You can start with the obvious - Genesis or Matthew. You can also look at your own life and examine if there is an area of your life you are struggling in or looking for more information on or just simply curious about and look up that topic in the bible - trust me, it's in there. The great thing there is that once you get started you will find that you naturally go off into other areas of study and since it all relates, it doesn't matter where Gid calls you to start reading. You're going to end up reading and study's my all of it as God reveals it to you.
